Driving Mission

I found it really difficult to get out of bed this morning knowing what kind of a day was in store for me. So much to do, so little time.

Robyn and I had the task today to collect various materials from all over Gauteng and take them back to KwaThema so that work could carry on. First on the list was materials for our kite making workshop that will take place tomorrow morning at the beerhall in Masimini.

After a brief stop at a nursery and then a fabric warehouse we were on our way to Murray & Roberts in Kempton Park where Guy had organized through his father for us to collect some props to assist in supporting our brittle beerhall structure. Murray & Roberts was easy to find thanks to Guy’s great directions. Robyn and I arrived at a massive yard that serves as a store for all of Murray & Roberts’ props and scaffolding. I met a man there called Piet Molefe who quickly loaded up my trailer with 5 fantastic, freshly cleaned props! I never thought I could get so excited about props before… I couldn’t wait to get them back to site so I could install them and paint them. I think they’re really going to look great once they’re installed!

Next on the list of collections was some lawn dressing, fertilizer and bone-meal from a nursery on Rondebuild Road called Instant Trees. I was very worried that it all wouldn’t it in my trailer, but more worrying for me was if my poor car would manage to tow it all as the 10 bags of fertilizer were really heavy.
As if my trailer and boot weren’t already full, we still had to collect our instant lawn from this dodgy little motor mechanic not too far from the nursery. Robyn and I arrived at this massive plot of land where a guy named Barry runs a small mechanical engineering workshop AND a place where you can buy instant lawn- bizarre! After paying for the lawn we drove around the back of the workshop to see a massive field that was being cut up by four or five guys into ½m² strips. We need 60 of these strips! My poor trailer and car! We managed to squeeze 30 of the strips into the trailer and arranged with Barry that we collect the remaining 30 strips the following day before our kite making workshop in KwaThema.

With the grass in the trailer it was time for us to head back to site to drop all our materials off.
