on friday, catherine suggested we have a meeting. so we met at her house. it was sunday. khula did not come - i dont know why. little guaga, her black and white kitten was so happy to see us! we reassessed our program and more specifically our budget. hannah had mentioned to us that she was not happy that we were exceeding our r10000 budget – she also mentioned that we should be utilizing what we could find in kwa thema rather than becoming fundraisers! and so we declined sab’s generous r15000 donation and cut our program right back. the refusal of the sponsorship was not an easy decision to make – but it was the right one.

the project has taken so many turns and the posts have shifted so many times, and keep on shifting! we decided to base our decisions on the function or non-function of the space. we ensured that none of the interventions that we were proposing would make the space determined or static or even prescribed for any particular use. we also considered our budget of course! and so the slide and the jungle gym were scrapped, along with the seating. we also agreed that we should pursue lighting more seriously with the council.

the meeting ended on a positive note – although we all felt that the beerhall was going to be less of a place without these things.
