Week 2: 7th May 2007
The plan for today’s visit was to measure up the existing site using the SG drawing given to us by Peter Le Roux. This exercise made me realise the positive and negative aspects of having volunteers on site. The negative aspect is that volunteers need constant management-while the group were furiously pacing up and down the site trying to get everything measured in 20 minutes many volunteers stood around doing nothing. The positive aspect is that the volunteers provide a familiar face to the project for the community inquisitive to know what all these foreign people are doing in their township. I am also (as usual) finding group work extremely hard to deal with-I suppose this is one of the points of this year though-learning to work in a team. Towards the end of the meeting many of us congregated in an unused hole in the ground meant for a tree. This made us think of a way in which we could design seating around the chess board- as a seat-deep hole in the ground. We left each other at the end of the day having decided that I would draw the site up in cad and Karabo would do a design axo. Hope to god the rest of the members pull through with something worthwhile for the presentation on Friday. I am also finding it difficult to write this blog- reading it over, it makes me sound like a complete idiot. Oh well, too tired to re-write.
