Mood: Inspired
Song in mind: Hillsong-My Redeemer Lives
Location: Chess Park
Mission: Complete Foundation walls
On our arrival in the morning, we continued with the manual labour-it was business as ussual. We were visited by a reporter from African Report. We took some time to take photographs and were interviewed. It was clear that some of us were more photogenic than others.
We cleared up soil off the foundations and were preparing to lay the foundation wall which only consisted of three brick courses. We, then, set out the edges in order to be as accurate as possible. The truck from Cashbuild delivered our order for bricks in time to lay the wall in. Building sand was also delivered to site. The one thing that I’ve learnt which may seem embarrassing is the difference between river sand, building sand and plaster sand. The river sand is used for concrete (mixture of river sand, aggregate and cement at a ratio 6:3:1 with water) and screed ( riversand and cement at a ratio of 4:1 with water). It was on this same day that we began marking out the position of the tuckshop structure using the method of triangulation.
To my surprise, we were visited by two new volunteers who came via Phindile. Wow, I could not believe how easily they accomplished the task of brick-laying, as if the bricks were an extension of their arms. Yep, I guess this is what they call woman empowerment. I, personally had to humble myself and take up a few tutorials on brick-laying with them. It was this same day where i learnt to mix daga for the first time. Obviously, the day would not be complete without a Kota. As the saying goes: “A KOTA A DAY, KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY!” Well, something to that effect...
